Wow a new year again, to think another 365 days has passed us by. We decided it was the perfect time to look back on the year we had, specifically, the year of our One Day team. Let’s deep dive into the incredible companies they worked with, and take a moment to celebrate the intersection of our team's two passions; our love for video production and our commitment to charitable causes.
Despite the hectic pace of 2023, our One Day team created time to focus on causes that matter to them and work on videos for causes close to their hearts. From supporting BCNA, and Saving The Koalas, to partnering with Life Without Barriers, our team extended their reach across communities, making a meaningful impact.
One thing that sets this year apart is the joy infused into each project. Our team was able to explore new production styles, from magical live actions to captivating animations, pushing creative boundaries in ways we hadn't before.
Let's take a look at some of the carefully crafted stories that resonate beyond the screen!
Life Without Barriers
This project was special for us to create a recruitment video for a company that needed it. With so many of our healthcare professionals going through very difficult times being appreciated for all the work they do, LWB wanted to shine a light on how much of an impact one person can have on another who may need assistance in day-to-day living. LWB was very specific in wanting to show the quality of life anyone who may be differently abled can have, and that as a carer you have an impact in making a difference in their world.
Our team took to work, creating questions to ask, completing a recce, and filming a touching video that not only shows off residents' personalities, plus their independence in these assisted living.

WAYYS
WAYYS was an end-of-year wrap-up, with the aim to showcase the amazing impact they have had on the domestic and family violence sector in 2023. They wanted to present the data and case studies interestingly and came to us with the idea to film it as a news program. We went to their office and filmed several people speaking to the camera and then came away and edited it into a news program for them. They were so pleased and the team enjoyed the experience of having the crew coming in and making their end-of-year wrap-up special. Domestic Violence charities and NFPs are so important to our community and the help they give women and children making the most frightening decision they will probably ever make is so needed. Every year domestic violence loses money in the budgets so to be able to help WAYYS out with this video was so special.

BCNA
We collaborated with the Breast Cancer National Association (BCNA) to capture the "Field of Women" event at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in August 2023. This event occurs once every four years, and brings together thousands of participants to raise awareness and support for breast cancer.
Our task was to encapsulate the energy, excitement, and heartwarming moments of the Field of Women event, creating a sizzle reel that reflects the strength, resilience, and unity of the breast cancer community. The reel includes Vox Pops, featuring heartfelt testimonials and reflections from event participants, offering a unique glimpse into their experiences.
In addition to event coverage, our team orchestrated a pre-event TVC, an on-site big-screen video at the MCG, and a moving Reflection slideshow. The entire team working on the project was so grateful to create a series of impactful videos for a cause close to their hearts.

Save the Koalas
Through One Day we worked with Save the Koala who wanted to create a narrative-based short animation that would bring awareness to the SaveTheKoala foundation, as well as their ‘Save a Tree’ initiative.
To create this emotive story, our 2D animation department curated a style that would feel hand-crafted, down-to-earth and organic, to draw upon the very real issues our beloved Koalas are up against.
Using scripting, storyboards, style frames, animation, music, sound effects, and voice acting, our team developed a beautifully passionate animation that we’re all very proud of.
‘What made this project very special to me, is that I was relatively new to Visual Domain at the time (less than 3 months), so being welcomed into a company and being able to lead such a wonderful team and project, proved the generosity the company provides through their charity arm - One Day.’
- Riley Nicholls - Animation Line Manager & ProducerThe client was also incredibly generous with their animation and trusted our team and the process, which resulted in such a gorgeous animation that we truly enjoyed making and are proud of.

Ride for change
Ride for Change is where gruelling 1,000km bike rides meet fundraising for children's education in Papua New Guinea. Leading up to their 2023 cycle from Adelaide to Melbourne, we helped capture and share their story on social media. We profiled riders and heard insights from them about what the ride means to them.
Since 2012, Ride for Change has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Gateway Children's Fund, which has been utilised for various purposes such as adding a classroom, acquiring a school bus, and expanding their education program.
Working with such genuine individuals dedicated to making a difference was both humbling and inspiring. Everyone at VD felt fortunate to help tell their incredible story.

In addition to the epic projects above, there are more. In total our One Day team created videos for 8 different charities in 2023, and we are so proud of all of them and the impact they will have for their respective charities.
RRT
Rapid Relief Team provides catering directly to support and relief groups in humanitarian and natural crises. This not-for-profit came to us to create a stop-motion animation, to be used to promote their exclusive line of Lego-style toys, that were made for their 10-year anniversary.
We began by crafting a storyboard for the 30-second animation, ensuring a clear vision of the content and its timing. Armed with this blueprint, we embarked on the task of capturing the sequence, feeling much like children in a toy store, we were ready to play with an array of Rapid Relief Team Lego sets.
Our team worked closely with Rapid Relief to ensure the final edits were exactly as they envisioned. ''It was a refreshing and joyful project to work on, one that reintroduced a sense of play into our creative practices for the team. It also was exciting to know we were contributing to an extraordinary team of people that provide incredible support for those in need."
